April Fools Day DotA 6.50 Release

So…the DotA guys have a sense of humor and released an April Fools release of DotA. Awesome. You can download it at the DotA forums.

Dota 6.43b Released!

  • Adjusted starting gold in -rd to give you the same amount you’d have when the creeps come out in regular pick game (right now it is a little less than normal)
  • Enabled POTM/Warlock/Alchemist in -lm and Warlock in -rd
  • Added -om(onlymid) due to popular demand to disable creepspawn and tower vulnerability everywhere but middle
  • Added -powerup and -neutrals to single player commands
  • Added -nd (no death timer) and -lives xx (maximum lives) as optional commands after -dm is activated
  • Added a -fleshstr command for Pudge to view how much str you gained from the ability
  • Added -deathon/off (-don/off) that toggles on and off a new death timer to show you your respawn without needing to open the scoreboard
  • -cson now places the k/d in the multiboard title
  • -showdeny is enabled by default for observers
  • Siege units are now properly added to your -cs
  • Weather commands are now user specific, so you can have rain while your ally has snow and the others have nothing
  • Added an extra blank line before -ma output, to help readability when used near other commands

==[Map & Misc Changes/Fixes]==

  • Changed the way Aegis and Roshan work. Aegis is now a Roshan drop (a 1-charge ankh basically). You cannot create it manually. Roshan starts out weaker without melee return. He respawns stronger and bigger every 10 minutes
  • Added a new secret shop containing limited items (only stout and helm of iron will for now) to the top left and bottom right areas
  • Changed Range creep quantity upgrade from 60min to 45min. Siege follows this as well. Melee creeps quantity upgrade frequency changed to a few minutes sooner than usual
  • Implemented a sound for when creeps spawn for the first time (75198)
  • Chicken/Crow can no longer sell items (has been abused in long games to sell for money to buyback. The sellback price on recipes is only intended to be that high to help against misclicks)
  • Removed internal usage of lumber resource
  • Notification is sent when an observer leaves the game
  • Added a game timer in the top interface
  • Fog of War is removed when a team wins (111691)
  • Illusion from runes lasts a little longer now (40->60)

DotA 6.41 Released!

Fixing Firewall & Router Problems With Warcraft

My friend Bude just started blogging and his first post was a good one. Topic: Fixing Firewall & Router Issues With Warcraft…but more specifically; If you’re having issues creating Warcraft III games, the fix is really quite easy.

If you’ve every attempted to host a Warcraft III game and your friends are unable to join no matter what the map…well, you’ve got a problem, although the fix is pretty simple:

Bude takes you step by step through setting up port forwarding on your Linksys router so that ports 6112 – 6119 point at specific machines on your network so they each can host games. That’s typically half the problem. However, you may find that people are still unable to join your hosted games.

You may be choosing a stupid map…or it could be a firewall problem. Bude explains how – on Windows XP – to open a hole in the Firewall to allow incoming connections to War3.exe. After thats solved, all should be right in the world and you can host Warcraft III games to your hearts content! DotA for the win!

DotA 9.39b Re-Released!

DotA 6.39b has been re-released with some needed patches that the first 6.39b version did not fix. If you’re looking to download it, you can get it here or here. If you have downloaded 6.39b from here or prior to the 6th, you should delete your old file and re-download.

Here’s the new changelog:

  • Fixed a very serious Mac bug
  • Reduced Shallow Grave cooldown from 300/150/75 to 300/200/100
  • Fixed Lycan’s icon on scoreboard
  • Fixed a bug with the last nerf to shadow word (it wasn’t actually nerfedas i said it was in the code, thx malle)
  • Changed Infernal HP from 900/1400/1900 to 900/1200/1500
  • Allowed swaphero to be used after the -rd draft
  • If you don’t pick a hero in -rd, one will be randomed for you (for the same gold cost)

DotA 6.39b Released

UPDATE: 6.39b does not fix the Mac bug as assumed. It is suggested that you remain using 6.39!!!! This is right from the official DotA-Allstars site:

DotA 6.39 Released!

Its been a long time coming, but Defense of the Ancients version 6.39 has been released! Download it here or here.

The notable changes are: there’s two new scourge heroes, a new end-game score board, and Sentinel/Scourge hero kill gold is now shared with the players! Here’s a list of all the updates:

  • Listed all the cooldowns for items and abilities
  • Added -rd (-randomdraft, similar to the style of play in a few inhouse leagues)
  • Added two new Scourge heroes
  • Added new functionality to replay files for leagues to more easily calculate and process game data
  • Added -showdeny/-hidedeny
  • Added new host commands “-weather snow”, “-weather rain” and for everyone “-weather off” (if it is turned off, it can’t be turned on again, to prevent spam and abuses)
  • -ma now shows hero level next to the name
  • Improved first middle Scourge tower area
  • Added a new endgame scoreboard to replace the inaccurate one that Warcraft 3 generates
  • Improved death text presentation
  • Added floating text to show you all the gold you get (including bonuses, not just the 100) from hero kills as well as tower kills. Please note that there has been no change to the gold you get, it is just being displayed as an added effect now.
  • Improved some ward vision areas for the Scourge team (thx Wedge[p])
  • Sentinel and Scourge hero kills now share the gold with the team instead of it being lost
  • Rewrote a lot of internals coding to allow for cleaner AI version implementation (in near future, the bot capability will be part of the regular map, useable in the every release)
  • Added Snowman after Roshan (just a temp for the season)

  • Fixed the creep blocking issues on the left Sent side
  • Added an observer scoreboard display for better information when watching live games

DotA 6.38 Released!

After a long wait, Icefrog and co. have released DotA Allstars version 6.38! Download here or here. For those interested, here’s the changelog:

dota With the release of DotA v6.36b, a new game mode has been added that, frankly, scares me a bit. This mode is enabled by the blue player typing: -wtf …at which point all hell breaks loose.

-Wtf mode removes mana costs and cooldowns of all spells and abilities. Crazy. I’ve tested this mode out once with Prophet and happily walked up the field creating stream after stream of treants (units the Prophet can control) and zerged my opponent’s base.

The mode is fun, overpowered and hugely imbalanced…but oh its bound to be a sweet, deadly game. Definately worthy of one -wtf mode game a night when my friends and I get together to play on Thursdays.

DotA Allstars v6.35 Released!

There have been some interesting additions/changes. Of particular interest to me are:

  • You can now set the player slots to Computer to reduce the starting gold if you are playing in less than 5v5 (so you don’t have to start with 3500 if you don’t want to)
  • Bonus gold is given to the allies of the tower killer (even if creeps kill it)
  • Perseverance can now be broken up into its components by clicking on it
  • It seems they’ve added a new mode (-voterandom, which is like -allrandom except you get to vote on which hero combinations are used).

There have been a number of other changes, so check out the changelog:

* Added two new neutral creep spots
* New mode -vr (-voterandom, like -ar except you get to vote on which hero combinations are used)
* Game no longer immediately ends when you win, you have time to chat if you want to
* Hero Descriptions now have the movement speeds listed

After extensive playtesting on two new items, i decided that that it was better for the game to put them on hold rather then rush them in. I’m sorry to those who were waiting for it, but its for the best. Hopefully we will see them in the near future as well as other new content.

Warcraft III: Tech Wars

Tech Wars Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is a sweet two-team game for up to 10 players where each player controls a hero and fights off creeps and pushes to destroy their opponent’s base. Well, recently a few of my friends and I have found a different game that can be just as exciting but games last about 15 to 20 minutes rather than the 1 to 1.5 hour games of DotA. The game?

Tech Wars

In Tech Wars, you have to build barracks, factories and gyrocopter pads that automatically spawn units and send them at your enemy! Each building has upgrades that will upgrade the units this building spawns. At the center of the map there are different technologies that you can capture, and as long as you control them you will be able to upgrade to even better units and buildings. You also have turrets that you can build and upgrade to protect your base. So whatever you do, don’t lose your base, and use whatever you can to protect it! Be the first team to wipe out the other side to be victorious!

Defense of the Ancients (DotA) AI

dota DotA is a great game with many game options. If you are new to this blessed game and wish to expand your knowledge and/or practice, your only real option is to play on with human teammates and opponents due to the lack of Artificial Intelligence built in. If you suck, you’re bound to face ridicule for the entirety of a game…which is enough to drive potentially good players from ever playing again.

Enter DotA AI. Shortly after a new version of DotA gets released, its equivalent version with AI is pushed out for download by the powers that be. I’ve played with AI only once and the bots seem to be pretty decent. They build their own items, team up and attempt to kill opponents, plus anything else you’d expect to see a player do. Pretty sexy. So, if you find yourself sucking and in need of practice…or you need your 10 person DotA match with no leavers, check out DotA AI.

What perplexes me is why they don’t build AI into the game as-is.
