Because I’ve re-introduced myself to World of Warcraft, I’ve also re-introduced myself to modifying (modding) the game interface! As time progresses, I’ll feature mods that I find super useful. First off: Cartographer.
Cartographer is a modular, lightweight, and efficient framework for manipulation of the world map. It is based on Ace2 and other libraries of the Ace community. It features:
- Battlegrounds : allows viewing of battlegrounds outside of the zone.
- Coordinates : adds coordinates to the bottom of the world map of the player and the cursor.
- Foglight : Shows unexplored areas on the map. replacement for MozzFullWorldMap or Unexplorer. Much more efficient, though.
- Group Colors : turns all your party’s and your raid’s POIs into circles colored based on class, and shows a number on them based on their raid group.
- Instance Maps : shows maps of instances.
- Instance Notes : adds boss notes and such to instance maps.
- Look ‘n’ Feel : allows you to change the transparency, position, and scale of the world map.
- Notes : lets you put notes on the map.
- Professions : automatically tracks herbs and minerals.
- Zone Info : on hovering over a zone, it will show the levels of the zone, the instances in the zone, their levels, and the number of men the instance is made for (e.g. 5-man, 40-man).
The basic map provided with World of Warcraft is severely lacking…heck, there aren’t even coordinates! My previous map solution was Atlas…a great instance map mod, but thats where its usefulness ended…instances. Cartographer is a full blown mod that gives a you all the sweet stuff (see the list).

Well… I read through all of that… kind of a waste, but made me laugh.
Anyway, it would seem probable that the guys who did get banned didn’t get banned for using this, but rather got banned because of a trojan/spyware kind of thing. It’s not outside the realm of reason to consider that you guys got hacked, esp. if you frequent ‘questionable’ websites. Just reminded with the recent adobe security hole that IE has had more than a few security holes in its lifetime and WoW is just popular enough that it could be a target.
Makes sense really… gold farmer tosses a key logger or something similar on your system, takes control of your account ranting everywhere about the cheap prices on his website, the account gets banned and its no skin off his nose.

so, now i can feel safer using Sanity; the actual mod named.

I downloaded cartographer this morning. I got a 3 day suspension within hours for:
Type of Violation: Use of Prohibited Third Party software Consequences for Account: Account Suspension for 3 days (72 hours), Password Reset and warning placed on the account
No doubt here as far as I am concerned… Don’t use it!

Been using this or a version of this since it first came out.. IMPOSSIBLE you were banned for this mod.. Period
I have spoken to GM’s about this. Been told REPEATEDLY , use of these types of MODS does NOT constitute violation.
Move on and stop spreading lies.
HOW CAN I GET THE HERBALISM NODES TO SHOW UP ON THE MAP PLZ I HAVE CARTOGRAPHER AND CARTOGRAPHER_DATA AND CARTOGRAPHER_HERBALISM. IT DOES NOT WORK. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP???
Cartographer_Mining and Cartographer_Herbalism havent been updated since july 08. Not sure if the author is still around to update it therefore these mods wont work in northrend.
If you have any programming history it’s easy to fix. Got my mods working in less that 20 minutes but it’s too much to explain in a reply like this. Ask one of your friendly guild scripters to have a go at sorting it for you :)
I am having the same problem. Also, why doesn’t Cartographer have some kind of official website where people can go to for FAQs?
I am not 100% sure about this but I just want to say, read this excerpt from Blizzard’s Exploitation Policy and it seems pretty clear that you COULD get banned for using Cartographer or any other Third Party addons. As for the people that say that they have not been banned for years since using the addon, it could just be that Blizzard hasn’t examined your account yet.
If individuals can get banned for using the add-on, shouldn’t we all be banned. I’m sure quite a few people are using them…..
