This was hilarious. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did a bang up job of portraying Palin and Clinton. Although this is satire, this video exemplifies everything that is horrid about John McCain’s “pick” for his Vice Presidential candidate.

Quest Software: Active Directory Recovery Video

While frittering our lives away on the internet, my friend Dan and I stumbled upon an ad by Quest Software that featured 3 dudes in funny outfits. We had to click…and this is what we found:

Dan tried to escape this Active Directory Recovery ad a few times but I made him stay…The masked guy at the end doing the robot made it all worth it.

Funny stuff :) Kudos to Quest Software!

High Resolution YouTube Videos

As reported by Slashdot, YouTube is rolling out high resolution video! Despite the fact that this feature isn’t fully implemented, for those of you that can’t wait – like myself – you can view the high-res versions simply by changing the URL like so:

Yup! Just tack on &fmt=6 to the end of the YouTube video URLs and enjoy the high-res goodness.

Cybernet News additionally states:

If the YouTube video just sits there loading then that is a sign that the video has not been converted to the higher resolution yet. To really see the difference you should view the video in full screen mode by clicking the button in the bottom-right corner of the player.

Note: Alternatively you can add &fmt=18 and it will play the high-resolution version when available, otherwise it will play the regular version. Here’s a Greasemonkey script that will automatically add &fmt=18 onto the end of each YouTube URL.

Note: YouTube has millions of videos and this feature isn’t officially released…so it will take some time for the high-res feature to become available on many videos. But…the URL tweak is worth it if it means there is a chance the video is higher quality.

I became as giddy as a school girl when I found out that Blizzard had announced the much rumored and anticipated StarCraft II! As of now, while the game is still shrouded in Blizzard mystery (unannounced launch date, lack of details on planned game features, etc), the game is far along enough to provide some seriously stunning gameplay videos.

A few things are known about the game thus far: The 3 races that we know and love will be returning (Protoss, Zerg, and Terran). The way Blizzard words the FAQs leaves them open for adding a new playable race, however…that’d be nifty. What it would be is anybodies’ guess. Secondly, we know that Blizzard is stepping it up a notch with collision detection and how units interact with each other. What we see in the gameplay videos made me drool like an excited bull mastiff. Before I get to those, here’s the game announcement on the official site:

College Saga

I stumbled upon College Saga on YouTube that left me laughing. The synopsis is:

Once upon a time, when Earth was still a beautiful place, an evil force came to turn all living things into Vegetarians.

Three students from suburban Massachusetts would step up against this catastrophe… to end Vegetarian Supremacy.

Mark, Jesús, Maria and their foes would make amazing personal discoveries as the two forces clash.

And so began the ultimate saga about friendship, heritage, sex and explosions.

Although the video below is College Saga in its entirety, the production was done in 4 episodes originally. Throughout the episodes, Final Fantasy is most heavily referenced, although Secret of Mana and Zelda (not to mention Star Wars and Napoleon Dynamite) find their way in as well. I must say that the first episode is by far my favorite as it mimics Final Fantasy the most in regards to character movement and text. The later 3 episodes adopt use spoken dialog over text-boxes in many cases which veers from the Final Fantasy theme. Regardless, the video as a whole was quite funny. Have a look-see:

My friend Casey Bisson contacted me to create this logo. In the typical Casey fashion, he hasn’t exactly explained himself yet…Bastard. I can only speculate that he and Amanda Congdon have something cooking that will give Rocketboom a run for its money.

It seems that BisonBoom.com has been purchased by Casey (I did a who-is). Hrm…

Anyways, I drew it with my Inuos3 tablet. Its a Bison on a Rocketboom-like rocket. w00t. (I took the liberty of changing the tailfins to suit my preferences) This Bison looks scared as I suppose I would be if I was riding on the side of a moving rocket.

Multimedia – Video (w/ Lab)

Check out the Music Video I made! Whee. I will be taking autographs later.

As many of you may already know, myPlymouth and WebCT is down (and has been since 3am). This directly effects my duties in IT and will be needed in the office during official class time. However, here are the slides which we will go over next Tuesday (I’ll combine the two days into one). In the mean time, read this: Digital Video for Multimedia Basics.

And I suppose I’ll give you a Video Assignment. w00t! Have fun with this one.

Using the video application of your choice (Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, etc) create a music video for one of your favorite songs. You will need to find an mp3 of a song from somewhere you can do this a few ways:

download it (legally) from iTunes, then download WavePad and open the song that you downloaded and save as .mp3.
‘borrow’ an mp3 from a friend
rip one of your own cds

Next, using that song, find pictures and video from elsewhere to match your music, thus creating a sort of Music Video collage-type thing. If you’ve never used video editing software, Windows Movie Maker is super easy to learn. If you get stumped, do some google searches to find the answers you need. (Or e-mail me)

Once you are done…DO NOT turn in the Movie Maker project file…you need to save it as a Movie (.wmv). (obviously, if you are using iTunes, turn in a .mov)

Now…how should you turn it in? Well…Don’t upload it to WebCT. Save it to your M:Drive in your Home folder. (or burn it to a CD) and either send me the link to your video or get the CD to me by next Friday (4/21).
