Death Troopers, a novel by Joe Schreiber will be released on Tuesday (October 13, 2009) and takes place just before “A New Hope”. What is it? A Star Wars horror book. That is something that I didn’t expect to ever see. I’m interested enough that I just might read it. Here’s the plot:

When the Imperial prison barge Purge breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope seems to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back — bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge will die. And death is only the beginning.

For aboard the Star Destroyer, amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn’t really empty at all, the dead are rising, soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.

What is awesome is that there are a number of fans that have come up with trailers for the book. This post has a large number of them, but here’s my favorite.

Pretty creepy.

I’ve had some free time recently so decided to whip out my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and see what I could drum up. I had a few commissioned drawings waiting on the wings – all three were character drawings of members of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. As usual I have uploaded them to my Deviant Art gallery but I like to blog them as well. Here goes:

Solus Gar, Mando Jedi

From Left to Right: Solus Gar, Mando Jedi (With Helmet); Talos d’Tana; Anubis

There is an issue on Talos that need correcting, and something’s odd with the proportioning on Anubis. I’d like to think that I’d fix them…but I probably won’t :D Anyhow, I’m pleased enough with the coloring to post them here.

BioWare has a track record of developing outstanding computer role-playing games including the recent XBox 360 game that took the world by storm, Mass Effect. That game company can weave a story that rivals the ability of Blizzard and I have high hopes that they will be able to deliver on this MMO. Only time will tell!

I’ve read over 50 Star Wars books, have played the CCG, the RPG – d6 AND d20, I’m a member of The Dark Jedi Brotherhood, and I do a lot of Star Wars art. As such, I encounter a number of Star Wars-y names/terms in writing that I make assumptions on their pronunciations. Then, days, months, or years later I find out that the actual pronunciation does not match mine and my brain implodes with frustration. In conversations with fellow Star Wars geeks, I find that many of them are wrong as well.

A little while back, I did some searching and found a nice list of Star Wars pronunciations over at StarWars.com. Here are a few that may help ease your frustrations:

Here’s a character sketch I did for a fellow member of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. Acheron, modeled after Briareos Hecatonchires from the Anime film Appleseed, is depicted here with sub machine guns. Using a toy as a reference, I drew this with my Intuos3 tablet. Overall, I liked the way it came out!

The phrase “Do not want” is one of endless amusement, now spoken often in my department when referring to anything bad or…well…unwanted. The phrase is brilliantly humorous and more so now that I know its accidental origin.

But where did this epic phrase come from? I found out yesterday that I had inadvertently blogged about the origin without even realizing it in titled Star Wars, Backstroke of the West. As I mentioned in my previous post, this was Star Wars Episode III recorded in theater, dubbed in Chinese, then subtitled in English off the Chinese dubbing…thus resulting in truly hilarious phrases, such as “Like, reach the man, Good good good let us counter-attacking.”; “The Presbyterian Church like enjoys you not.”; and of course: “Do not want”.

This gem that I’m focusing on in this post occurs when Anakin Skywalker – clad in his Darth Vader garb – learns of Padme’s death. In Episode III he yells: “Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!”, however, the skillfully done translation of the Chinese dubbing to English resulted in the beloved phrase: “Do not want.”

Beautiful. The world has seen this phrase’s real-world usefulness and has embraced it with open arms producing high-end content like the lolcats at I Can Has Cheez Burger:
