Art: Dark Jedi
November 25, 2008 | 3 Comments
I’ve had some free time recently so decided to whip out my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and see what I could drum up. I had a few commissioned drawings waiting on the wings - all three were character drawings of members of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. As usual I have uploaded them to my Deviant Art gallery but I like to blog them as well. Here goes:
There is an issue on Talos that need correcting, and something’s odd with the proportioning on Anubis. I’d like to think that I’d fix them…but I probably won’t :D Anyhow, I’m pleased enough with the coloring to post them here.
Art: Acheron “Briareos” d’Tana

Here’s a character sketch I did for a fellow member of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. Acheron, modeled after Briareos Hecatonchires from the Anime film Appleseed, is depicted here with sub machine guns. Using a toy as a reference, I drew this with my Intuos3 tablet. Overall, I liked the way it came out!
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Series

Announced at Comic-Con in 2005 and slotted for release in 2008, Star Wars: Clone Wars actual content is somewhat shrouded in mystery. All that has been confirmed is that the show will not be centered around the Skywalker family history, but rather have an episodic feel. George Lucas has stated that there will be episodes that focus on Stormtroopers and an episode that focuses on Kit Fisto. No matter the focus of the show…I’ll be watching.
I was happy to see that Lucasfilm had released their first teaser for the new CG Animated Series Star Wars: Clone Wars. The animation style is very reminiscent of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, a style that I find quite appealing. Sadly I’ve only been able to find the video on StarWars.com…I’ll post a YouTube version when it becomes available. Until then, check out the trailer here.
Drawing: Mejas Doto, Dark Jedi Master

Here’s an image I did for a member of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, a Star Wars club on-line with a focus on computer gaming, writing, and roleplaying. Anyways, this member collects images of his character and thus commissioned one from me. Here’s the final product:
Along the way, I saved various steps I took while creating the image…its interesting to look back and see the progress.

Initial sketch, general layout for the character.

Darkened in certain areas, defining key parts of the Jedi Master. Created the face and head markings.

Finished basic darkening, began coloring in the skin.

Defined clothing and colored under-tunics.

Defined cloak and clothing even more and continued coloring.

Finished clothing definition and coloring.

Thickened lines, shortened middle finger, filled in gaps, added a black background.

Fixed hand and added Force lightning…blue lines, Gaussian blur, faded brush strokes.

Drew lightsaber and added blade. Defined right hand a little more.

Original final rendition with sweet red background.

Re-done final rendition…aged Mejas Doto appropriately…he’s no teenager as the previous version implied.
Thats all she wrote! The picture took about 6 hours on my Wacom Tablet. Much fun was head and it was good to break the tablet in again! Its been far too long.
