All in all the new design is better than the current no matter which way you slice it.

That’s cause commander taco told them they couldn’t do anything new … he specified you had to use the same colors, the round sweep in the top left corner, had to use the same icons they’ve been using for topics which had to have a white background, etc. It was totally the wrong way to get a redesign. He should have let people be innovative and see what came out rather than limiting them IMHO.
