Most Popular MMORPG

WoW Well, as expected, Blizzard has once again created the most popular game of a given category! In a press release on Blizzard‘s site they announced meeting the 1 million paying customer mark in the US! Bringing the total of paying customers world wide to over 4 million. Assuming ~4 million customers @ $15/month…thats $60,000,000 every month. $720,000,000 dollars in a year (assuming the membership stays at around 4 million). Thats a lot of cash.

Its just amazing how this industry has been growing…A number of companies have been in the MMORPG market for a while, but it has been Blizzard’s World of Warcraft that has brought the industry to its full light. Blizzard’s followers from the hit Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo series seemed to have simply followed the Genious company into their new realm of domination…and they brought their friends and family :) With numbers this high in the MMO industry (and growing) who knows what this could hold for the future!

  1. […] As we can see, MMORPGs are becoming increasingly more popular to the world at large (World of Warcraft in particular). These games are now appealing to the masses rather than the small sub-groups of geeks that have been pocketed around the country for years. When I play WoW or discuss WoW in a group setting, I find that more and more women 1) have heard of it and 2) have played it. […]

  2. […] World of Warcraft, as I’ve mentioned before is a very popular game. WoW, however, is more than just the game aspect…it is extremely social. Players can create guilds – which are organizations in game – and participate in a variety of player created events and interactions with other players. Guilds typically create websites (like this one: Crimson Eagles) to allow these players to communicate, strategize, complain, and brag. […]

  3. […] World of Warcraft has increased in numbers since my last post. 0.07% of the World’s Population play WoW. Thats crazy. Doesn’t seem like much? Well, its 5 million people. What will that number be after Christmas? And yes, WoW has gained me as a subscriber once more… […]

  4. […] Bude tells me that he’s been ripping out in DotA and WoW to this song. In fact, here’s a quote from Bude himself: This song is f’n dangerous – it gets you pumped so bad you might actually break shit. When the drum beats hit before the solo – watch the FUCK OUT! So if you want something to listen to while you “Flip out and kill stuff” this is it. […]

  10. […] World of Warcraft is permeating our lives and what we do to ourselves. Wow. This guy is truly one crazy dude. Read this quote from this member of the Garithos guild on the server of the same name. I was about 4000g away from being able to purchase my epic flying mount and riding skill, so I came up with a bright idea to raise the money and save me farming the gold myself (which would’ve taken months with my play schedule). To put it simple Runescape is 90% Kids, Muity accounts, and bots. there is only like 10% of teens and older playing that game. True mmo’ers will not play that game as their main mmo. there are a ton of MMOs that are free. but you have to download. but that makes it safer cause they have hack blockers and its harder for them to Hack you (UNlike RS) but i think the True besst mmo is a lesser known MMO and probly the game with the most privite survers, Ragnarok. the 2nd 1 is in Korea in its Open beta and will not be out in english till next year or so. But the privite survers will be out sooner. for you people who read this check the game out
