4 Million Dollar TV

Expensive TV

(found via Digg) Amazon currently has a $4 million tv up for sale. In all actuality, Trinet Electronic Networks seems to have entered an incorrect price for the 32″ LCD television which has sparked a few interesting comments:

Great value for your money
Eric Pheterson

I was kind of sketch about buying this specific unit because of the price, but the reviews and descriptions were promising. Once I got it, I opened the box and realized it’s covered in gold and has diamond studs all over it! It has an amazing picture, it’s definately a conversation piece!

What a great deal!!!!!
M. Elzinga

This is the best TV I have ever had!!! The TV is totally worth the 4 million I spent!!! I would totally suggest you buy this TV!!! It is an awesome deal!!!!!!

I would have given it one star
Dad

While I have never owned this tv, it is underwhelming for a price of over $4mm, truly amazing for such old technology.

Comments from Digg

I like how the “low price” indicator is shown! I guess I should buy 2 or 3…

No Free Shipping!!!???

I like the ‘Price at a Glance’ indicator in the top corner ‘List Price $2,699.95, New from $4,018,100.00. BARGAIN!!

No deal! I just bought an LCD TV for $3,500,000!

Boy, whoever did the data entry is sure to never hear the end of this :D

No More E3?

July 30, 2006 | Leave a Comment

It seems big name corporations may have lost interest in spending money on advertising at good ‘ole E3.

Uber-geeks writes:

The buzz is that E3 as the gaming industry has come to know it will cease to be what it has been since the mid 1990’s. The hugely popular Gaming Expo has lost its interest from big name gaming corporations that claim the cost isn’t worth the benefit. :(

[...]

E3 is speculated to not be cancelled entirely, but have a much smaller event next May with fewer of the big names. It seems like companies such as Blizzard can manage on its own. *cough cough Blizzcon cough cough* I dread the official announcement (coming this Monday, perhaps).

Dube Juggling Equipment

July 29, 2006 | Leave a Comment

Dube I’m a newbie juggler. Despite the fact that I consider myself a novice, I’ve been juggling off and on for about 5 years. Cliff over at Spiralbound.net was the guy who got me interested in juggling back in my freshman year of college and I got by with some cheap beanbags that I picked up at a bookstore.

It wasn’t until a year later that I bought my first decent Juggling items… Dube was my juggling store of choice. Dube equipment is high quality with a decent amount of customization to allow you to get the look you want. The juggling equipment available at Dube ranges from beanbags to cigar boxes, from bowler hats to unicycles.

The only drawback to Dube is their site as it looks like it was constructed in the 90’s. It could definately use a revamp. But thats beside the point :)

To date I’ve purchased:

  • 3 Silicon Juggling Balls
  • 3 European Clubs
  • 6 Phatboyz Clubs
  • 3 Juggling Knives (w/ cases)
  • 1 Set of Poi

I’m impressed with the quality and longevity of the above listed items. Its only now (after 5 years) that I will need to replace the decoration on my first set of Phatboyz clubs. w00t.

Site Redesign

July 26, 2006 | 3 Comments

It was high time I re-design BorkWeb. I’ve been screwing around with this design for a few weeks now and I’ve finally got it working for go-live today :D I began construction on the site using LifeAfterCoffee’s Caffeine Theme. Jon did a great job in structuring the templates and a fairly solid CSS stylesheet.

However, I took it and butchered it beyond recognition. I did a lot of restructuring of the templates, location of elements, and I ripped apart the CSS stylesheet and pasted its parts back together with a some additions. I’ll adjust this theme some more, add a header graphic, zip it up and make it available for download soon.

UPDATE: I already think this needs more work….hrm. I’ll have to brainstorm on what to do to it.

Pink Stang

Pink Stang

Alan Baker is getting a Mustang. Alan refuses to blog. PinkStang.com is his friends’ effort to create a blog on Alan Baker related topics in honor of him. PinkStang is simply an aggregation of blog posts tagged “Alan Baker”. This will give him a record of events relating to him on both a personal and professional level. w00t.

So…where did the name PinkStang come from?

Over Google Talk, Al’s status message mentioned the color his new Mustang would be, so being the tool that I am, I altered my status message to urge him to purchase a pink one. Others in our office soon chimed in and agreed that pink was the right plan. Sadly, Al wasn’t keen on the idea. This only fueled our fun.

In reaction to Al’s refusal to purchase a pink Mustang, Zach started shooting around a domain name for him: pinkstang.com. Everyone promptly changed their status messages to the sweet - though slightly dirty sounding - domain and by the end of the day everyone in the office made a decision. Purchasing PinkStang.com was the right plan. After a quick look on GoDaddy, we found that it was available, purchased it. Zach footed the bill and installed Wordpress. I immediately went to work on creating the sweet pink Mustang and header graphic.

So whether Al wants to or not, he’s blogging :D

Game & Teamspeak Server

July 25, 2006 | 1 Comment

A few years ago, My friends and I established Clan Ubergeek (complete with officers and ranks) to organize and frag in the wonderful Battlefield 1942. We rented a server (whose name I cannot recall) at a pretty bloated price - but were reasonably happy. However, as with most things, interest slowly faded and our game server was retired.

Well, my friends and I have caught the FPS bug again and have an extreme urge to play good ‘ole Battlefield 1942! We’ve decided to start up a private 20-man game and teamspeak server (to support us an various guest invites). Not wanting to get stuck with a sucky price, Randy and I began hunting for game servers at an affordable slot/cash ratio. After a bunch of research, we found a service with a very reasonable price, good service, and excellent web administration. That service: GameServers. So far I’m pretty pleased!

So, if you’re on the hunt for a clan server, check out GameServers

On another note, the voice of Optimus Prime will be done by Peter Cullen, the original voice for Transformers: Ironhide, Optimus Prime, Slugslinger, Streetwise, Wingspan and Nightstick. (and oddly enough, the voice actor for Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh as well as a shlew of other animated shows/movies). Awesome…just freaking awesome.

New Version Of Bsuite…w00t!

July 24, 2006 | 2 Comments

I was thrilled when Casey over at MaisonBisson posted about the release of Bsuite b2v6. After much prodding by me, Casey has separated tags from posts into their own tables. He and I sat down one evening and fleshed out the overall goal for the tagging structure…we butted heads on a few things but the end result is pretty snazzy. I’ve beta tested the tagging features and I’m fond of them…w00t! Because of all the optimizations, I quickly installed the update on the blogs I host:

Zach writes (and I agree with him hands down):

This is a fantastic plugin for WordPress which does a lot of heavy lifting and can help to better leverage the long tail of your content. Frankly I wouldn’t run WordPress without it. This bug fix release clears up a lot of little nagging problems [...]

Huxley, MMOFPS

July 23, 2006 | 3 Comments

Huxley looks awesome. See for yourself:

Huxley is a Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter (MMOFPS) - built on the Unreal 3 Engine - scheduled for release sometime in 2007 (date not yet announced). Its the first of its type and has grabbed my attention both from the backstory, graphics, and game style.

Its got some sweet features:

I. FPS IN A PERSISTENT WORLD.
Huxley delivers the excitement and rich gameplay experience of an MMORPG while combining the knuckle-whitening action of an FPS. Players can communicate with each other in a virtual online city, and participate in side battles with the intuitive PvP (player vs. player) system. Everything a character does in the Huxley world directly affects the success of not only the individual, but also of their race and party; from battles to behaviors, all interactions are linked to the survival of a character’s entire race.

II. LARGE-SCALE BATTLES.
Huxley goes past traditional death match FPS gameplay by challenging players to adapt to new forms of combat to protect the interests of the camp. Servers will be solely dedicated to accommodate millions of users engaged in fast paced, large-scale combat. Players will require strategy and cooperation to achieve victory. Extensive multiplayer battle modes are available each with a variety of unique fighting techniques and special characteristics.

III. ADVANCED A.I. AND QUESTS.
Huxley has advanced A.I. that rivals other online games. Enemies in Huxley demonstrate remarkable intelligence, which can be used to a player’s advantage or demise. Quests in Huxley will take players on paths of intrigue to uncover conspiracies resulting in confrontations. Each quest is continually updated so players feel as though they are enjoying a new story mode every time they play.

IV. CHARACTER GROWTH AND UNIQUE PLAY STYLES.
The characters in Huxley are continuously growing, which is rare in FPS games. Players are able to enhance their own combat styles by obtaining out-of-this-world weapons and new skills, which in turn continuously challenges players to adopt different gameplay styles as they progress.

Huxley

As bullet IV mentioned, there is a leveling system and differences between lower and higher level characters which isn’t too common with FPS games. Wikipedia has a better description on the leveling system:

Huxley’s advancement system is actually separated into two. In the early part of the character advancement player system, players can shape their character in the style they like best. After that, players can then add depth to their characters. ‘Experiences’ and ‘Battle points’ are two elements of character advancement. ‘Experiences’ will affect the earlier part of character development and ‘Battle Points’ will affect the later part of a character’s development in a big way.

In the earlier part, by acquiring licenses, characters can have opportunities to use upgraded weapons and armor. In the later part of the game, players will concentrate on developing their characters to be more effective under any circumstance. One developer has stated, “We are planning to make the earlier part of character development relatively fast and the later part of development a bit slower but more abundant. This is because we decided that too much difference between characters abilities that affect combat result is not good for an FPS game.”

Webzen has considered the fact that in most MMOGs the players at earlier levels have no chance of beating those at the higher levels, and therefore they have adjusted the game to make skill more significant than long periods of playing the game and leveling up. Leveling up will give players advantages, such as more slots for upgrades and perhaps faster aiming, but a lower level player can still measure up to a higher one.

This MMO is a pay to play game with a price yet undetermined. I’ll most likely be picking this one up and giving it a run for its money. I want the Beta.

Warcraft III: Tech Wars

July 23, 2006 | 13 Comments

Tech Wars Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is a sweet two-team game for up to 10 players where each player controls a hero and fights off creeps and pushes to destroy their opponent’s base. Well, recently a few of my friends and I have found a different game that can be just as exciting but games last about 15 to 20 minutes rather than the 1 to 1.5 hour games of DotA. The game?

Tech Wars

In Tech Wars, you have to build barracks, factories and gyrocopter pads that automatically spawn units and send them at your enemy! Each building has upgrades that will upgrade the units this building spawns. At the center of the map there are different technologies that you can capture, and as long as you control them you will be able to upgrade to even better units and buildings. You also have turrets that you can build and upgrade to protect your base. So whatever you do, don’t lose your base, and use whatever you can to protect it! Be the first team to wipe out the other side to be victorious!

Check out the sweetness that is Tech Wars! Download it here!

Rowan Atkinson Is My Hero

July 22, 2006 | 1 Comment

Rowan Atkinson is by far one of my favorite comedians, blessing the world with Mr. Bean, Johnny English, and many other TV and movie roles. While piddling around YouTube, I stumbled on a few stand-up shorts of his that made me laugh out loud.

Rowan Atkinson as The Devil (a.k.a. Toby):

Rowan Atkinson and Dirty Names:

Rowan Atkinson and Elementary Dating:

After all that, if you are still feeling the need to see more, check out his appearance on the Daily Show in 2003!

Abby Batchelder: Pink Lily

This is another picture from Abby’s collection that I’m fond of. Its a pink lily from my grandparent’s yard. I like the way the background is blurred and the shadows are nice.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

TMNT

Nice! On March 30th of next year a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is coming out! Talk about a blast from the past. While this movie isn’t live-action like the previous 3, the CG in the trailer gives me high hopes. I’m a huge fan of the Ninja Turtles and was excited when they made a come-back a few years ago and this is just icing on the cake.

Next year is bound to be good…Transformers AND TMNT. w00t!

Valve: Portal

Portal

From Xboxyde:

Valve just released this first trailer of Portal, their very experimental first person puzzle game announced with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Half Life 2/Team Fortress 2. Clearly Prey gave the Valve developers some very nice ideas about how use this cool technology.

After watching the trailer…wow. This game looks awesome. You play a test subject with a portal gun where you need to locate and get to an exit while avoiding obstacles (such as walls, drops, gun fire, etc) by shooting portal entrances and exits. Anything that enters through a portal entrance will appear in the portal exit wherever that may be. Sounds simple enough, but things can get complicated. Check the trailers out for yourself:

File : First trailer (32.67 MB) (1280×720) - Streaming version
File : First trailer (11.65 MB) (640×360) - Streaming version

Sadly this game seems like it is being developed for the XBox 360 and the PS3. Lets hope it comes out for the PC…if so, I’m buying it :)
